Mission Statement
Relevance and rigor – although these terms have been strained in the past, and there is ongoing discussion in management research and eduction as to whether and how both can be simultaneously achieved, the combination of relevance and rigor guide the work at our chair.
In Research, relevance and rigor are respected by applying theoretically established, formal methods to answer research questions, which have high relevance in the real world (particularly in Logistics and Supply Chain Management). We conduct research in order to develop new insights and solutions. However, at the same time, our research is methodically innovative and adheres to the highest academic standards – which are prerequisites to receive recognition in the scientific community (in particular with leading journals).
In Teaching, relevance and rigor are acknowledged by imparting our students with sustainable competence in structuring and finding solutions to business problems (especially in the area of Logistics and Supply Chain Management) – this is accomplished through founded theoretical and analytical education. Through precise applications, case studies, and business games, we simultaneously highlight not only the practical relevance of business issues but also train students to become analytical decision makers, who are not overwhelmed in business practice.
The relevance of our research and teaching is based on intensive interaction with business practice. We are inspired and motivated by corporate projects as well as seminars and lectures for practictioners.
