Information Systems (M.Sc.)

The Master's degree programme in Information Systems offers you the opportunity to acquire advanced knowledge and all the necessary qualifications required to plan, design and develop operational information processing. The content of the programme is made up of economics, business informatics and computer science. The successful completion of the Master of Science in Information Systems qualifies students for attractive and responsible management positions in national and international companies. It also opens up the possibility of a doctorate.

Study programme

Compulsory area:

The compulsory part of the Master's degree programme in Information Systems consists of a module in business informatics and a project seminar, which is carried out in the advanced study period; ideally in the third semester. This is intended to promote important core competences and enable practical work on problems in business informatics.

Fundamentals Computer Science:

The Fundamentals of Computer Science programme consists of a selection of computer science modules and provides in-depth insights into individual specialist areas. For example, you can choose modules from the fields of artificial intelligence, data science, machine learning, programming and many more. You can find a detailed list of all modules in Fundamentals Computer Science in the subject-specific regulations.

Tracks

Within the track area, you specialise in two specific fields of study with different focuses. You can choose two specialisations from four different tracks.

The Enterprise Systems track imparts knowledge about the design, implementation and optimisation of enterprise software and business processes. The focus is on the strategic use of ERP systems, data-driven business process management and automation

Core (10 ECTS)  

  • Business Software 1: Management and Implementation of Information Systems 
  • Business Software 2: Data-driven Business Process Management and Automation 

The Business Analytics track teaches methods and techniques for data-driven decision-making in companies. Students acquire knowledge in data analysis, machine learning, decision support systems and optimisation methods.

  • Advanced Operations & Logistics Management 
  • Analytical Information Systems 

The Electronic Business track offers in-depth training in the strategic and practical aspects of digital business. The focus is on e-business strategies, digital business models and the use of modern technologies to optimise business processes and communication.

  • E-Business Strategies 
  • Mobile and Ubiquitous Business 

The Artificial Intelligence track provides advanced knowledge and skills necessary to effectively apply AI technologies in various business areas. This track is particularly suitable for students pursuing a career in AI development, data science and technological innovation.

  • Practical Data Science 

Seminar

As part of the Master's degree programme in Information Systems, a seminar paper must be written in preparation for the Master's thesis. This can be written at a department of your choice from the second semester onwards.

Masterthesis

Towards the end of your degree programme, you will write your Master's thesis (30 ECTS credits) at a department of your choice. The thesis takes a total of six months to complete.
