Structured doctoral programme

The doctoral regulations of the Faculty of Management and Economics are based on the following guiding principles:

  • An excellent education and thus the promotion of young scientists is ensured.
  • A structured qualification programme in the qualification phase for the dissertation imparts methodological and theoretical knowledge for this purpose.
  • Collaboration in the form of joint research between supervisors and doctoral candidates is to be strengthened.

  • Specific methodological knowledge is taught in order to complete the doctorate at a high technical level.
  • The acquisition of field knowledge is encouraged in order to reach the cutting edge of knowledge in the field in question quickly and in a structured manner.
  • Doctoral students are encouraged to present their research results at high-quality international conferences.
  • The faculty wishes and encourages research results to be published in renowned journals.
  • By gaining transferable skills, careers are promoted and doctoral students are given the opportunity to round off their personal profile.

As part of the qualification programme, doctoral candidates must complete five tasks. Detailed information can be found in the guideline, which regulate the contents of the qualification programme, among other things. The following regulations in particular must be observed when selecting the achievements:

  • At least one, but no more than two examinations must be taken in the area of research methods.
  • At least one, but no more than two, examinations must be taken in the area of theory.
  • At least one, but no more than two, certificates of course participation from the area of transferable skills must be submitted.

In addition to the internal courses offered by the faculty, doctoral candidates can also receive credit for all courses offered by the Bavarian Graduate Programme in Economics (http://www.bgpe.de), the doctoral programme of the Association of University Professors of Business Administration (Verband der Hochschullehrer für Betriebswirtschaft e.V., VHB-ProDok) and the EIASM's Doctoral Education Network (EDEN). As part of the qualification agreement, the applicant and the supervisor determine the allocation to the areas of research methods, theory and transferable skills by mutual agreement.
