The Chair of Logistics and Quantitative Methods at the University of Würzburg is proud to announce the acceptance of three of our research papers at prestigious international conferences in recent months. Our work focuses on leveraging Time Series Foundation Models and generative AI to revolutionize logistics and supply chain planning.

Advancing AI in Supply Chain: Our team’s latest research, published in the European Journal of Operational Research, introduces a global learning model for dynamic inventory control in large pharmacy networks, outperforming traditional methods and revealing valuable insights for data-driven inventory management.

Moritz Beck is undertaking a research internship as an Applied Scientist at Amazon in Luxembourg within the Global Transportation Services department.

Jointly with other members of our faculty and more than 40 partners from industry, we successfully launched a three-year research project dedicated to the development and evaluation of AI solutions to enhance the competitiveness of SMEs in regional supply chains.

In a large interdisciplinary initiative, researchers at the University of Würzburg study supply chains for essential medicines and develop measures to increase their availability. This initiative is coordinated by Richard Pibernik and recently received the Research Award of the Vogel Foundation Dr. Eckernkamp.

Magnus Maichle and Moritz Beck participated in the academic programme "Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Advanced Applications" at Lady Margaret Hall, University of Oxford. They both achieved highest marks.

Jointly with colleagues from the University of Würzburg and various practitioners, Richard Pibernik launched an interdisciplinary research project on medical supply chains (ETHiCS-EU).

In April, Richard Pibernik was invited to teach in two outstanding management programs.

Pascal Notz received the doctoral dissertation award of the German Society for Operations Research (Gesellschaft für Operations Research - GOR) for his thesis „Prescriptive Analytics for Data Driven Capacity Management".

Our work on data-driven supply chain and operations management receives international recognition.

Pascal Notz, a former PhD-student at the Chair of Logistics and Quantitative Methods, received this year’s scientific award of the “Bundesvereinigung Logistik” (BVL), the German association of logistics professionals. BVL has more than 11,000 members and is the most influential professional organization in logistics in Germany. The award has a long history: For almost 30 years, outstanding scientific work has been honored by the BVL, and many laureates have become very successful scholar and professionals.

BäckerAI is a software solution for bakeries to reduce food waste and simplify their planning processes. The company was founded by graduates of JMU Würzburg: Franz Seubert completed his Master’s thesis at the Chair for Logistics and Quantitative Methods where Jan Meller and Fabian Taigel did their doctorate.

Konstantin Kloos, researcher at the Chair of Logistics and Quantitative Methods, successfully completed his doctoral thesis project. On December 15, 2020, he defended his thesis “Allocation Planning in Sales Hierarchies”. Due to his outstanding innovative work, the board of examiners conferred the distinction “summa cum laude”.

Richard Pibernik receives the “Preis für gute Lehre an den staatlichen Universitäten in Bayern” award for outstanding achievements in teaching from the Minister of Education and Science of Bavaria.
